Redox Reactions of a Lead Acid Battery (Chemistry)



This lesson uses a lead acid battery as an application of redox.

Previous chemical knowledge should include:

  • assigning oxidation numbers
  • defining and recognizing oxidizing and reducing agents
  • writing and balancing half reactions
  • balancing redox reactions

In the CTE lessons for this unit, students are learning to design and build an electric vehicle. A key component of the electric vehicle is that it will operate using a rechargeable lead acid battery.
