"Shining a Light": Awareness Events and Rhetorical Strategies (ELA)

Lesson #2 in the "Benefit Concert" project focuses on the "Shining a Light" awareness event of 2015. Students discover rhetorical strategies inherent in speech and print.

Introduction

In Lesson 2 of 4, students will be able to further examine rhetorical strategies through the focus of a Benefit Concert/ Awareness Event. The "Shining a Light" event provides a current example. Students will study Randy Lewis's LA Times article introducing the event and Morgan Freeman's speech in the event. Awareness Events, rhetorical strategies, and informational texts are integrated in this lesson.
