In this lesson students will be given the challenge to design a mask using Visual Storytelling to portray an emotion that they keep hidden. Students will look at professional masks that were created using specific shape language, learn some tips in creating good masks and brainstorm a concept and design for their mask.
This is the second lesson in a 4 part unit geared towards teaching students how to use Shape Language and Color Psychology to create artwork with an emotional story. Now that your students know the basics of Shape Language and Color Psychology, they will have to use that knowledge to design a mask that has a hidden emotional undertone. Students will be designing claymasks. However you could modify this lesson to any medium.
